Situatet 45 km south of the city of Salzburg, Werfen is well known for its fantastic ice caves (Eisriesenwelt), and its impressive castle (Burg) with falconry - seen left, far in the distance when driving along the 'Autobahn' in direction Salzburg coming from the south. Werfen is a wonderful place to go hiking up lovely mountains, but don't forget to bring good footwear!



Beside exploring the mountains you can go swimming in a public swimming pool, play Minigolf orTennis, do Jetboating, Rafting, Fishing, Curling or see art exhibitions. Well known also for its excellent gastronomy or frequently arranged knight-dinners (Ritteressen) at the castle, where it's even possible to arrange a wedding.

WERFEN - Eisriesenwelt - Ice Caves



Ice Caves

The Ice Caves in Werfen are the worlds largest ice cave with 30.000 m2 ground ice.
Good foot wear and warm clothes highly recommended! Leaving Werfen and driving up the mountain by car or tourist bus, parking the car, and walking 15 minutes to reach the gondola, this will bring you up (120%) to the Dr.-Friedrich-Oedl-Haus (restaurant and ticket office), height 1.575 m. Now continue walking up towards the cave entrance for another 20 minutes. There you'll be handed over a lantern by a guide who takes you up and down paths and steps along fantastic ice objects.
